A partnership agreement has been signed between the Vugar Hashimov Chess Academy and the La Jolla School of San Diego to cooperate in the field of chess between the USA and Azerbaijan.
İdman.biz reports with reference to AZERTAC that after the signing ceremony held at San Diego State University with the participation of the President of the Chess Academy, Sarkhan Hashimov, the Azerbaijan Day event was held for the first time at the mentioned higher education institution.
The event, which was held with the organizational support of the university and the participation of Azerbaijani student Vagif Giyasli, provided participants from different countries with the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich history, culture, music and cuisine of Azerbaijan.
During the presentation, participants got acquainted with the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic of the East, the leading role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in our modern statehood, and the policy and initiatives pursued by President Ilham Aliyev.
Consul General Vugar Gurbanov emphasized that our country is an exemplary state in the field of multiculturalism, noted our country's decisive role in the development of the region, and invited the participants to get to know our country better.
At the meeting with the President of San Diego State University Adela de la Torre, Vice President for International Cooperation Kristina Alfaro and other members of the Board of Directors, relations with Azerbaijan in the field of education and possible cooperation were discussed.
Consul General Vugar Gurbanov and Grandmaster Vasif Durarbayli, who participated in a live broadcast on San Diego's KUSI TV channel, provided information about Azerbaijan and answered questions about our country.
In addition, the 7th chess tournament was held in San Diego with the initiative and support of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles.
40 American chess players between the ages of 8 and 18 competed in the San Diego - Azerbaijan youth chess tournament organized in the Coronado library.
The chess players who took the first three places were awarded with appropriate diplomas and gifts by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, as well as various souvenirs about Azerbaijan to all participants.

As a continuation of the series of events, a meeting for chess enthusiasts was organized at the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles with the participation of Grandmaster Vasif Durarbayli. Our compatriots living in Los Angeles were presented with the history of chess development in our country, the contribution and irreplaceable support of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the development of chess.
Then, Durarbayli, who gave a short master class, held friendly games with chess enthusiasts.
