Number of teams participating in the World Championship will be increased

FIFA has decided to increase the number of participants in the Women's World Cup to 48 teams. Sport24.az reports that the press service of the organization has released information about this.

 

According to the new decision, the number of groups in the group stage will increase from 8 to 12, and the total number of games will increase from 64 to 104. The duration of the tournament will be one week longer compared to the current 32-team format.

 

The changes will take effect from the 2031 World Cup. The 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil will be held with the same number of participants - 32 countries.
