"To be honest, I'm not against foreigners. I think we have coaches in our country who are capable of leading the national team."
Idman.biz reports that these words were said by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva when commenting on the appointment of Italian Carlo Ancelotti as head coach of the national football team.
The head of state emphasized in an interview with journalist Marcelo Ninho that the main problem of the team is not the coach: "Looking at Ancelotti's career, we can see that he is an excellent coach. He was also a good player. But Brazil's problem, I think, is the low level of football players. It's not the same as before. If we compare it with the generations of 1958, 1962, 1970, 1982, 1986, 2002 and 2006, the current generation is weaker. Just remember our attack line in 2002 and 2006 and you will see that we are very far from it."
By the way, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said in one of his interviews last year that players playing in the national championship should play in the national team: "Those who play abroad are not superior to those who play here. I have long noted that the Brazilian national team should have players who play in the country."
