The Winter Sports Federation has reacted to the possible acquisition of an Azerbaijani passport and the "nationalization" of Russian figure skater Veronika Zhilina.
This was reported in response to a request from "Report".
"The federation will inform the public if there is any information about this," the organization stressed.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee have not commented on the issue.
Veronika Zhilina wrote on her social media account that she had received an Azerbaijani passport. The 17-year-old athlete noted that she is looking forward to receiving permission to compete under the Azerbaijani flag. The athlete said that she has not competed in Russia for two seasons due to injury:
"I am grateful to everyone who helped me recover. My life has been connected with Baku for several years now. Azerbaijan is the country I love and where I found my second home."
Earlier, the Russian Figure Skating Federation announced that it did not approve of the figure skater's transfer to the Azerbaijani team.
