UEFA is considering moving the 2026 European Futsal Championship to another country.
Idman.biz reports that this is due to Lithuania and Latvia's unwillingness to host the Belarus national team on their territories.
EURO-2026 is scheduled to take place in Riga and Kaunas from January 18 to February 8 next year. The Belarus team qualified for the tournament by taking first place in the qualifying group.
President of the Lithuanian Football Federation, Edgaras Stankevičius, met with UEFA President Alexander Čeferin and informed him that the Belarus national team would not play in Lithuania: "The UEFA leadership fully understands us, but they continue to defend the sporting aspect of the issue - the right of the team that qualified from the qualifying round to play in the championship. They base this on this sporting principle, and no sanctions have been imposed against this federation."
There is also an alternative to holding the European Championship in another country, of course. Of course, this is the last option, but it is also real."
According to media reports, Kazakhstan may host EURO-2026.
