"Serhedchi" head coach Evren Alkaya explained the reasons for the 77:104 defeat to "Sabah" in the second game of the playoff stage of the Azerbaijan Basketball League.
"Report" informs that the specialist made a statement to the club's press service about this.
He said that the absence of leading player Antonio Uilliams also played a role in the defeat:
"Antonio Uilliams' absence created difficulties. We played the playoff matches with only one point guard. Due to family problems, he had to go to his country. It is difficult to play with only one point guard. In the first match, we played well against "Sabah" for 3 quarters. We just couldn't resist the opponent in the 4th quarter. Knowing this well, "Sabah" started the second game with aggressive defense. Unfortunately, we did not perform well in defense. Because we could not get rebounds, we allowed the opponent to score points from the second chance. We said goodbye to the league in the way we wanted."
E.Alkaya also assessed the team's performance this season:
"As a result, the team did not play badly this season. We were able to show good basketball. It's just that winning is more important than anything else. I thank the managers, players who supported us this season, and I wish everyone success. We had to play 3 matches with the fast basketball team of the second group in the playoffs. We played 4 matches against "Sabah" in 8 days. It is very difficult for players at this level to play so much in a short period of time, there is fatigue. This also affected our games. We went to the last match very weakly and lost the match. I wish everyone success in the next season."
