"We played the playoff matches with a single point guard."
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Evren Alkaya, the head coach of "Serhedchi", in a statement to the club's press service.
The Turkish expert spoke about their defeat to "Sabah" in the second game of the playoffs in the Azerbaijan Basketball League.
He stated that Antonio Uliams' absence created difficulties for them in the match: "Due to family reasons, Antonio had to leave the country. It is difficult with a single point guard. We played well against "Sabah" for 3 periods in the first match. We just couldn't resist the opponent in the 4th quarter. Knowing this well, "Sabah" started the second game with aggressive defense. Unfortunately, we did not perform well in defense, and because we could not get rebounds, we allowed the opponent to score points from the second chance. We said goodbye to the league in the way we wanted."
Alkaya also evaluated the team's performance this season: "As a result, our team did not play badly this season. We were able to show a good game. It's just that winning is more important than anything. I thank the managers, players who supported us this season, and I wish everyone success. In the playoffs, we had to play 3 matches with the fast basketball-playing team of the second group. We played the 4th game against "Sabah" in 8 days. It is very difficult for players at this level to play so many matches in a short period of time, there is fatigue. Of course, this also affected our games. We played very weakly in the last game and lost. I wish everyone success in the next season."
It should be noted that "Serhedchi" lost to "Sabah" with a score of 77:104.
