The goal of the Azerbaijani national team of under-18 girls' basketball players in the European Championship Division B has been announced.
The head coach of the team, Evren Alkaya, made a statement about this to "Report".
He stated that their goal is to win as many games as they can:
"We will compete in Division B for the first time in our history. Almost all of the teams here are leading national teams in women's basketball. They really have a good history. Our rivals are strong, but we will fight in the matches."
E. Alkaya said that Azerbaijan does not have great success in women's basketball:
"The girls we have been preparing for two years may perform a little weakly in the European Championship. But we will try to raise it to the highest level in the training camps and tournaments we will participate in. In April and May, we participated in several games in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Our team won 6 games and lost 2. The next training camp will start on May 19. Before the U-18 Division B matches, we will participate in another tournament. We believe in the girls, they are very eager. But there is a need for some time. I and the technical staff are also doing our best. We intend to represent Azerbaijan in the best way possible."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will face the national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Ukraine, Iceland and Lithuania in Group C of Division B. The matches will be held between July 4-13 in Vilnius and Alitus, Lithuania.
