A judo tournament dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held in Nakhchivan.
According to the local bureau of "Report", young male and female judokas born in 2010-2013 tested their strength in the competition held at the Ilham Aliyev Olympic Sports Complex.
70 athletes competed for medals in the tournament.
At the opening ceremony, Majid Seyidov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, acting Minister, greeted the participants and spoke about the invaluable services of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the rise and future development of sports in Azerbaijan, and emphasized that the sports policy he laid the foundation for is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.
He added that, as every year, this time too, a series of events, including sports competitions, are held in the autonomous republic as a sign of respect and reverence for the genius of Heydar Aliyev. Such events are also aimed at improving the level of training of coaches, referees and athletes, and increasing interest in physical education and sports.
After the competition was declared open, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played and the fight started. The matches were managed by judges of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation.
Davud Mammadzadeh (38 kg), Onur Farzaliyev (42 kg), Fuad Jalilzadeh (46 kg), Elvin Jafarov (50 kg), Yusif Asadli (55 kg), Huseyn Mustafayev (60 kg), Sadiq Rzazadeh (66 kg), Sajjad Heydarov (73 kg), Mirmammad Hajili (+73 kg), Laman Bagirova (36 kg), Nuray Jabbarli (40 kg), Yagmur Alizadeh (44 kg), Nuray Karimova (48 kg) and Aysu Safarova (65 kg) climbed to the highest step of the podium.
The owners of the first three places were awarded with diplomas and medals. Deputy Minister Majid Seyidov also participated in the awarding ceremony.
