The Malaysian Chess Federation will hold a chess tournament on May 17 to mark the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev.
The Federation told "Report" that the event, organized in cooperation with the Azerbaijani Embassy in Malaysia, has been attracting the attention of all chess players for the third year.
The tournament will consist of 7 rounds according to the Swiss system. Each game will have 15 minutes and an additional 10 seconds for each move. The games will be held in the rapid chess format. The tournament is included in the official FIDE calendar.
The Federation has allocated a prize fund of 7,500 Malaysian Ringgits, with 1,000 for the winner of the men's open section and 800 for the winner of the women's section.
Also, 10 main prizes will be played in each section, as well as additional prizes for U-18, U-12 and veterans over 50 years old, and players with disabilities.
Male players with a FIDE rating of 2100 and higher, as well as female players with a rating of 1900 and higher, are invited to participate in the tournament free of charge.
