The closing ceremony of the "Baku Open" chess festival, organized in our country, has been held.
Idman.biz reports that the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Mahir Mammadov, spoke at the event held at the Crystal Hall.
He emphasized that the "Baku Open" has great traditions and the competition was held in a highly competitive environment: "Everything was decided in the last round. The tournament participants were remembered for their interesting moves and pleased chess enthusiasts by using a number of non-standard innovations: "Baku Open" brought together participants from different age groups, demonstrating the interest of different generations in chess."
Former FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov participated in the tournament as an honorary guest. He said he was happy to visit Baku again, one of the chess capitals of the world.
About 700 chess players from 16 countries participated in the Chess Festival. Players with a rating above 2250 participated in the A tournament, lower-rated chess players in the B tournament, and young players with a FIDE rating in the C tournament. The prize fund of the Baku Open was 55 thousand dollars.
It should be noted that the winner of the A tournament was Aleksandar Inđić from Serbia.
