The number of medals we won at the Grand Prix in the Czech Republic could have been higher.
Rashad Aliyev, the coach of the Azerbaijani swimming team, said this in his statement to "Report", while evaluating the results of the XXXII Ostrava Grand Prix in the Czech Republic, which was a license-qualifying event for the World Championship.
The specialist said that they were not completely satisfied with the results:
"We represented Azerbaijan with 9 athletes and 3 coaches at the Grand Prix in the Czech Republic. More than 350 athletes from 5 countries participated in the competition. In addition to Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, France, Slovenia and Poland were also represented. Our athletes won 2 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals. Suleyman Ismayilzade was selected as the second strongest athlete of the competition with 804 points. Ogtay Huseynov was third with 798 points. We were not completely satisfied with the results. Because the number of medals could have been higher. Some of the athletes did not live up to expectations."
He also answered a question about the next competitions they will participate in:
"Our next week is the U-23 European Championship. Our athletes under 23 - Ramil Valizade, Abdurrahman Rustamov, Rashad Agaguliyev and Fatima Alkaramova will participate in the competition to be held in Slovakia. Later, in July, the European Youth Championship will be organized in Slovakia. Suleyman Ismayilzade and Ogtay Huseynov will test their strength in this competition. Suleyman won a license to the World Championship in the 400 and 1500 meter freestyle. The World Championship is scheduled to be held in Singapore at the end of July and the beginning of August."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani swimmers won a total of 17 medals at the Grand Prix.
