German swimmer breaks world record in 400m freestyle

Lukas Mertens from Germany set a new world record in the 400m freestyle at a tournament held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

"Report" informs that L. Mertens covered this distance in 3 minutes 39.96 seconds, surpassing the achievement of his compatriot Paul Biedermann (3 minutes 40.07 seconds) at the 2009 World Championship.

It should be noted that 23-year-old Mertens is an Olympic champion and winner of the 2022 European Championship in the 400m freestyle. He has one silver and two bronze medals from the World Championships.
