The opening ceremony of the European Judo Cup tournament among juniors was held in Guba.
İdman.biz reports with reference to AZERTAC that Rashad Rasul, Executive Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (ACF), wished the athletes success in his speech at the opening ceremony.
He thanked the European Judo Union (EJU) for their trust: "This tournament is of particular importance to us. As ACF, we are taking purposeful steps to popularize judo in the regions and develop sports infrastructure. The organization of the tournament in the regions is also in line with the instructions and directions given by President Ilham Aliyev regarding the development of sports in the regions."
Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov wished success to the participating countries and called on athletes to always be strong. He noted that the state provides a high level of care for the country's sports. According to the Minister, the organization of international competitions in the regions will give a great impetus to the development of sports.
EJU Sports Commissioner Albert Gmayner conveyed the greetings of the Union's President Laslo Tot: "On behalf of the entire judo family, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Azerbaijan Judo Federation for organizing this competition. The "Guba European Cup" is very important in terms of geographical coverage and the development of young athletes. I am sure that in a few years we will see some of these athletes on the podiums of European and world championships. I am proud to announce the "Guba European Cup 2025"."
Finally, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
It should be noted that 141 athletes (100 boys, 41 girls) represent Azerbaijan in the competition, which will end on May 4.
