American basketball player Cared Show may face the death penalty in Indonesia for smuggling marijuana from Thailand.
Lent.az reports, citing foreign media, that the athlete of the "Tangerang Hawks" team was arrested in Indonesia for attempting to smuggle marijuana candy from Thailand.
Police at Indonesia's Sukarno-Hatta International Airport discovered 20 packages containing approximately 870 grams of marijuana candy. The basketball player himself was later detained at his apartment.
According to a statement from local law enforcement, Show planned to distribute drugs to his fellow athletes.
Cared himself admitted that he uses these prohibited candies only for personal relaxation, especially after training. He bought these drugs through a friend in Thailand.
The American is currently facing charges related to the import, possession, and distribution of drugs. According to Indonesian law, if his guilt is proven, he faces the death penalty, life imprisonment, or up to 20 years in prison.
